1° Italian research about Vitamin D deficiency

AkitaLab we questions for answers.
Why the first research focuses on the evaluation of the possible lack of Vitamin D ?.
It all started with an empirical observation. Many autoimmune diseases (pemphigus, lupus, Harada etc) debut, among other symptoms, with depigmentation of the mucous membranes of the nose Of the sick Dog. But we arte very curious to find wha frequently even  "healthy" dogs manifests  depigmentations of lips, palate and nose.
The bibliography on the "symptom" of depigmentation in healthy dogs, a search through various scientific studies, was found to be very thin: maybe nothing.
Therefore, the depigmentation in healthy animals not considered currently a problem, but there is no one knows why it appear. We then moved on to observe, with the collaboration of many owners of akita,  palates, lips and nose in order to understand the impact of this, until now, "no problem" ... In an interesting comparison, all together, veterinarians, owners and breeders, we have observed that in some, not haggard, cases mucous membranes were washed out but, in the majority of subjects "depigmented", they showed real pink spots, not present at birth but added unto them, as if by chance, at some point in life. For these individuals the veterinarians prescribe supplements Tyrosine (such as algae) or amino acids obtained, however, little response.

Not appearing like a problem that can affect the quality of life, often, then, veterinarians and owners resign themselves to the state of things, without asking nothing more.
Just one of the owners who offered his contribution in the confrontation between the various parties pointed out that in human  Vitiligo, medicine is having great success with the integration of vitamin D, having found that Vitamin D  to be deficient in many people afflicted with this disease, and that people with vitiligo are statistically more prone to autoimmune diseases.
And so it has taken a spark that has involved us all, we tried as much information and material that will explain the IMPORTING of Vitamin D and we learned that, unlike in the human, the dog does not develop with exposure to the light sun and that the only source usable by the dog is food.
Then we learned that there is some study (few) that correlates the Vit D in dogs to certain types of cancer (always coinciding deficiencies) and heart disease.
In the cat is even prognostic index than he left to live in the event of serious diseases.
And in man? Also in humans the studies are not yet very many but they have found correlations very interesting in various pathologies, not only the vitiligo therefore, but also immune-mediated disorders including Harada syndrome.
In human studies he found that these patients, suffering from Harada syndrome, have a deficit of vitamin D, which worsens the disease most are aggravated further worsening the clinical situation and therefore the level of vitamin D. So it seems that integration adequate able to control and in some cases to stop this kind of pathologies!
The vitamin D is then correlated to certain types of seizures and epilepsy  making them more numerous (with additions has decreased from tens of crisis in a month to a few occasional crisis), in eye diseases of various kinds (retinal degeneration , cataract), dermatitis etc.
In short, the vitamin D is a hormone that has thousands of receptors at the level of each organ and performs important tasks at the level of the immune system and in our dogs is completely at the mercy of food, feed or supplements for those eho use home food ... Yes, because not enough fresh food, the vitamin D is present in few alimenta like  fat and liver. Unfortunately, we can not integrate at blind, because a surplus can be just as harmful because of its enormous influence on the body and all organs.
Viamina D deficiency can be the source of all pathologies ?? It can have an important role in the incidente of diseases? Could, in Akita more than in other races, be a congenital predisposition to a deficiency of Vitamin D? It may be assessed a problem of receptor even in the presence of appropriate amount assimilated.?
Hence the choice of which was the first research that would Akitalab dedicated: we would like to answer these questions we would like to dispel any doubts and give one more chance to Akitas sicks.
Obviously no sense to be alarmed if  your dog, maybe akita, have depigmentation assuming that he wil be hurt: right now we have Just ideas which can then prove founded as unfounded or partially founded, we want know!
This is only the first page of a project written with many hands, and with so many hands and  we hope, for our beloved dogs, to write numerous other !!.
